Five go wild on the World

The New Zealand family of 5 go travelling freestyle around Europe and the USA for 8 months.

After our Paris sightseeing we faced the nerve wracking drive out of the city. We had done it before in a hire car but it was back in 1987! Lets just say you need nerves of re-enforced steel to drive in this city. The famous roundabouts have no lanes marked within them so one must just dive in and hope for the best. There are usually 3-5 cars across the roundabout in varying positions including as we discovered horizontal! It really is a free for all and every man to himself. We survived however unscathed and drove for a few hours to our motel which we had pre-booked at Giverney, famous for the home and gardens of the artist Claude Monet.
Our motel was part of the Formula 1 chain. Their idea is to offer small rooms but cheap as they have no private facilities which we hadn't realised when booking. We had to book 2 rooms as the maximum is 3 per room but at about $60 NZ a room it was still a good rate.

The next day we visited Monet's garden and home which was beautiful and of course being late September not too crowded. The garden is huge and part of it is accessed by a pedestrian under pass under the road.
