Colquitt, Georgia -
After Tallahassee, Florida we drove an hour north over to the south west corner of Georgia to the small rural town of Colquitt. Kathy and her friend Jean had stayed with us in Wellington four years earlier and now we paid our first visit to them in Georgia. Kathy looked a 'little' different being 30kgs lighter than when we last saw her! (keep up the good work Kathy). We had 3 nights staying with Kathy and her parents Runell and Jack. The Dugans' and Jean and her husband Dale made us especially welcome and spoiled us with that famed southern hospitality. We enjoyed some southern food specialities like catfish, hush puppies, grits and boiled peanuts. We also enjoyed a Mexican meal out and a leisurely canoe trip on Lake Douglas, a private lake which Jean and Dale were lucky enough to have access to. We visited Kathy and Jean's unique workplace which is a preserved area of the state where scientists study the plants and wildlife and the Dugans' took us out to see how cotton is harvested and baled. Kathy tells me she is even going to submit our photo to the local Colquitt newspaper - I look forward to seeing it.
We had a great time and enjoyed the visit very much - thanks Dugans and Brocks!
