Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona -

We took a small detour and drove the 28 miles through the park and stopped to see the unique petrified logs. These were trees thousands of years ago and then over many years they were covered with volcanic ash which seeps through the wood, turning them into stone with bright and varying coloured quartz crystal inners.
